Peplink/Pepwave Configuration Guide

The following instructions outline how to setup a Peplink/Pepwave captive portal to the Smart WiFi platform. This guide assumes your Peplink/Pepwave device is already operational on a live network. Please make sure any firewall rules, web content filters, and other security measures have been configured to interface with the platform.

InControl2 Portal

  1. Login to your InControl 2 Portal and select your Organization
  2. Select your desired Group
  3. Click Network Settings at the top and then Captive Portals
  4. Click the button to Add an External Captive Portal
    • Enable: Checked
    • Name: SmartWiFi
    • Access Mode: User Authentication
    • Authentication: RADIUS Server
    • Authentication Port: 1812
    • Authentication Secret: 
    • Accounting Server: 
    • Accounting Port: 1813
    • Accounting Secret: 
    • Profile MAC Address: LAN MAC Address
    • NAS-Identifier: 
    • Daily Quota: 0 minutes 0 MB
    • Allowed Networks: Use the blue + Icon to add the domain of every default walled garden entry.
      Please be sure to include any additional entries provided by support in your order.
    • Splash Page URL: 
    • Press Save
  5. Click Network Settings at the top and then VLAN Networks
  6. Click your desired VLAN
    • Captive Portal: Smart WiFi
    • Press Save
  7. This completes the InControl 2 configuration

Pepwave MAX Web interface

  1. Login to your Pepwave MAX admin web interface
  2. Click AP at the top and then New SSID. Configure with-
    • SSID Settings
      • SSID: Guest WiFi(or whatever you wish)
      • VLAN: Select your desired VLAN
      • Broadcast SSID: Enabled
    • Security Settings
      • Security Policy: Open (No Encryption)
    • Click Save
  3. Click Advance at the top and then RADIUS Servers to the left.
    1. Click New Profile under the Authentication Server section. Configure with-
      • Name: SmartWiFi_Auth1
      • Host: 
      • Port: 1812
      • Secret: 
    2. Click New Profile under the Authentication Server section again. Configure with-
      • Name: SmartWiFi_Auth2
      • Host: 
      • Port: 1812
      • Secret: 
    3. Click New Profile under the Accounting Server section. Configure with-
      • Name: SmartWiFi_Acct1
      • Host: 
      • Port: 1813
      • Secret: 
    4. Click New Profile under the Accounting Server section again. Configure with-
      • Name: SmartWiFi_Acct2
      • Host: 
      • Port: 1813
      • Secret: 
  4. Click network at the top and then Captive Portal to the left. Configure with-
    • Enable: Select the VLAN you configured in step 2 for the SSID Settings
    • Access Mode: User Authentication
    • Authentication: RADIUS Server
    • Primary Server Authentication Profile: SmartWiFi_Auth1
    • Primary Server Accounting Profile: SmartWiFi_Acct1
    • Secondary Server Authentication Profile: SmartWiFi_Auth2
    • Secondary Server Accounting Profile: SmartWiFi_Acct2
    • Accounting Interim Interval: 300
    • NAS-Identifier: 
    • Access Quota: 0minutes 0mb
    • Inactive Timeout: 0 minutes
    • Allowed Networks: Use the blue + Icon to add the domain of every default walled garden entry.
      Please be sure to include any additional entries provided by support in your order.
    • Splash Page: 
    • Click Save
  5. Use the Apply Changes at the top right to deploy the changes

Enabling Bandwidth Throttling

To support the platform’s Session Profile values for Download/Upload speed you must enable QoS Bandwidth Control for Individual Bandwidth Limit. To accomplish this follow these steps.

  • Login to your Pepwave MAX admin web interface
  • Click Advanced at the top and then Bandwidth Control to the left
  • Click the checkmark to Enable Individual Bandwidth Limit
  • Click Save
  • Use the Apply Changes at the top right to deploy the changes

Hardware-Dependent Features

Not all hardware can support every feature in the Smart WiFi platform. The following section describes features specific to a certain hardware, if these features are supported by this hardware and clarifies the available functionality. If you have questions about these features in the platform please reach out to support.
