How can I change the upload or download speed a guest can get?

You can easily change the upload and download speeds that your guests devices get. This is handy to make sure that your operations run smoothly and makes speeds fair for all of your guests.

Note: No matter what you set these values at, the guests will never be able to exceed what you have on you ISP connection.

You can adjust 2 settings in the Smart WiFi Dashboard to control allowed bandwidth speeds:
Speed: Available options for speed are KBPS, MBPS, or GBP.
Timeout: Available options for timeout are Minutes, Hours, Days, Months.

Timeout Definitions:
Force Timeout: This is the maximum allowed time a guest can stay connected before the get disconnected and need to re-login.
Idle Timeout: This is the maximum allowed time a guest device can stay connected if it’s not doing anything (sending any data).

How to change the session profile:

1. To change the setting, login to the Smart WiFi Dashboard then click on menu item: Hotspot>Hotspot List – Then Click the ‘Edit’ icon next to the Hotspot you’d like to change the bandwidth on.

On the Hotspot screen, scroll down to the “Session Details” area. To change the current values, click the blue “+” icon:

Here are some guidelines:

Download Speed: We recommend at least 4MBPS Down/Up to ensure a quality guest experience. The more speed you allow, the faster your guests can download potentially slowing down operations systems or preventing other guests a good WiFi experience.

Upload Speed: We recommend at least 4MBPS Down/Up to ensure a quality guest experience. The more speed you allow, the faster your guests can upload potentially slowing down operations systems or preventing other guests a good WiFi experience.

Force Timeout: 60 minutes is common but perhaps a fast-food restaurant that would like to “encourage” table-turns may make this 30 minutes. Or perhaps a sports-bar may want to increase this to 240 minutes (4 hours) which is the typical length of a football game. A hotel property may want this 1440 (24 hours).

Idle Timeout: 60 minutes is common or generally matches the Force Timeout number.

Once you’ve entered the values you want Click the ‘Submit’ button to be returned to the Hotspot edit window. To save, scroll to the bottom of the Hotspot window and click the ‘Submit’ button.
